Riding at Altitude

This year we have partnered with Acli-Mate Mountain Sport Drink. Participants will be provided with samples at registration and at the 1st Aid Station. Creator, Roanne Rouse Houck, N.D. offers information about the product and preparing for high altitude sports, below:

Prepare for Cycling at Altitude

For the most enjoyable tour possible, participants in the Colorado Rocky Mountain Bicycle Tour should prepare ahead of time for cycling at elevation. Here are a few tips: arrive at elevation at least 24 hours in advance, limit/avoid alcohol, get to bed early, go easy on coffee and other diuretics and be proactive in keeping hydrated. Studies show that hydration is critical for sustained performance and energy, especially at elevation. Drinking water is important but continued use of an electrolyte containing sport drink offers increased benefit. Acli-Mate® Mountain Sport Drink is an effective, natural way to both hydrate and acclimate.
Acli-Mate® Mountain Sport Drink is an all-natural sport drink powder. It is designed to aid in the prevention and reduction of symptoms associated with altitude sickness and to improve physical performance at altitude. Fatigue, nausea, vomiting, headaches, insomnia, cramping, muscle fatigue and water retention are common symptoms of altitude sickness that may be reduced or eliminated by using Acli-Mate®. A sample of Acli-Mate® will be provided in your registration bag. However, increased benefit is observed by starting Acli-Mate® at least 3 days prior to arriving at elevation and for the duration of your stay. Acli-Mate® mixes easily in a water bottle and comes in two delicious, natural flavors – grape and orange.
For more information about Acli-Mate®, specific recommendations for cyclists, other Acli-Mate® products and how to purchase, go to www.Acli-Mate.com or call 866-641-5361.
